Brass beer tap handles are extremely popular, and they look good as well as last long in your kitchen. If you’re cleaning them, you’ll need to follow a few simple steps to have them sparkling in no time.
Remove the beer taps and wash them in soapy water with a soft sponge. This will remove any dirt that is on the surface, as the surface is usually the first thing people see when looking at it.
Next, dry them with a clean cotton cloth. The next thing most people do is apply a little bit of oil, so it’s important to make sure the tap is dry before doing that, as oil and water are not a good mix.
Applying a very thin coat of linseed oil is often a good idea. Be careful not to apply too much oil, however, as smudges and fingerprints will really show up if the tap is too oily.
Get rid of any excess linseed oil with another clean cloth. You can then use a yellow polish cloth in order to get rid of any smudges that you’ve created.
Be careful which polish you use. Olive oil is an alternative to linseed oil that can work just as well. Choose carefully when buying proper brass polish, as some types will get rid of the mellow aged color that a lot people love on their beer taps.
